There has been a significant focus this year on the need to support the small and independent businesses that are at the heart of our communities, whether that be one of our Great Inns or the artisan producers who supply them. We’ve created a Great Inns Guide to Shopping Local to help you find unique and thoughtful gifts this Christmas that will support the independent businesses that bring such diversity to our communities.
The Hundred House – Gift Hampers – Shropshire
This year the Hundred House have created beautiful gift hampers with many of the products being made from scratch onsite. You’ll find gorgeous treats to taste & quaff such as Lime & Gin Marmalade, White Choc & Baileys Fudge and luscious Christmas Liqueur to name just a few! You’ll be supporting both the Hundred House and the other local businesses which have provided ingredients for the hampers.

The Shibden Mill Inn – The Shibden Shop – Yorkshire
This year the Shibden Mill are bringing Christmas to you with their Christmas and Boxing day Hampers. Their Christmas Day Hamper includes everything you need to create a festive feast such as Scottish smoked haddock crumpets, bacon-wrapped North Yorkshire turkey ballotine and luxury chocolate truffles. Their Boxing Day Box will help you recreate boxing day, the Shibden way with home-cured salmon, venison sausage rolls, award-winning cheeses and Yorkshire beers.
If you’ve already planned your Christmas day feast, why not stop by their weekend pop-up pie shop that serves delicious pies every Saturday and Sunday between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. On weekends they also serve bacon sandwiches, barista coffee and craft beers, as well as handing out free walking leaflets and dog treats.
The boxes are available for collection only and will be ready to collect on 24th December between 9am- 12pm.

Victoria Inn – Holkham Hall Christmas Markets – Norfolk
What better way to shop local this Christmas than with a trip to a locally supplied Christmas market? Holkham Hall, the estate where the Victoria Inn is located, are running weekend Christmas Markets throughout December. Shop for distinctive gifts in the Lady Elizabeth Wing or visit one of the tasty food stalls in their courtyard. They are pre-booking this year, with all ticket sales going to Heritage House, so don’t leave it too late to book your entry.

The Inn at Whitewell – Gift Shop – Lancashire
The Inn at Whitewell Gift Shop is a must-visit for locals in Lancashire who are looking for quirky Christmas gifts. Stocking marmalades, chutneys, mugs, socks, cookbooks, spirits and more – there really is something for everyone here, including that hard to buy for relative! The independent wine merchant, Bowland Forest Vintners, also have a shop located within the Inn at Whitewell which stocks well over 400 high-quality wines. So, whether you’re shopping for a loved one or yourself, you’ll be sure to find the perfect present here.
