About the Great Inns of Britian

Hello – I’m Simon Heaton, the owner of Shibden Mill Inn near Halifax in West Yorkshire – I’m also proud to be the Chairman of The Great Inns of Britain, a collection of some of Britain’s finest traditional inns.

Any stay with us should be memorable, because the Great inns are a truly unique experience.

These are places with rich histories, charismatic owners and devoted regulars.

Many of the innkeepers started out in very different professions, mostly on the other side of the bar! So they love to share stories and get to know their guests.

You’ll find that our rooms tend to have names rather than numbers, because they’re all unique as well. And whilst your room might have a four poster bed, antique furniture and traditional fabrics, it might just as easily be a stylish suite with all mod cons – but whichever you choose, your comfort is guaranteed.

Each of the Great Inns is totally individual. Some are contemporary and chic, others bursting with traditional character. But they are all obsessed with quality.

At all of the Great Inns you can expect to be welcomed by loyal, experienced, knowledgeable staff who go out of their way to ensure that visitors have an unforgettable stay.

The Great Inns kitchens are at the heart of what we do. Talented, creative chefs select and use only the freshest produce – much of it locally sourced or from specialist suppliers – to create inspiring menus that celebrate the seasons.

As Great Innkeepers, we’re huge believers that great food deserves a glass of something equally gorgeous to go alongside it, so you can expect to find extensive wine lists and quirky ales – all at sensible prices.

So, we invite you to explore our website, explore the Inns, and read about our people, our food and our locations. And then we look forward to welcoming you very soon to one of our Great Inns of Britain.
