The Castle Hotel, Bishop’s Castle, with a reputation that spans as far back as 1719, celebrated its 300th birthday on 2nd June by holding a Garden Party.

Hotel owner, Henry Hunter said: “This is such a momentous anniversary that we couldn’t let it go unmarked.  It is an honour to own the hotel as it celebrates three centuries of trading and there really are few hotel owners who can say that!”

And given that Bishop’s Castle has one of the best reputations for real ale and beer in the country, it is very befitting that a specially commissioned ale was served, thanks to the fantastic local real ale brewery, The Three Tuns, to celebrate one of the oldest operating hotels in the country. Owner, Henry Hunter, commissioned the local history society to complete a book cataloguing the Castle Hotel’s fascinating 300-year history for future generations to enjoy and the Bishop Castle Heritage Resource Centre hosted a stand at the Garden Party, so guests could explore the hotel’s past even further.

The Castle Hotel, Bishop’s Castle, has featured in The Good Pub Guide for fifteen consecutive years.  It is a member of The Great Inns of Britain; a hand-picked collection of 20 traditional coaching inns and small luxury hotels, located in Britain’s best countryside and coastal regions.  Whilst every inn is different, they are united in their dedication to providing excellent quality food, a great wine list and real ales, individually designed rooms and traditional hospitality.
