West Arms – 366 days of romance throughout the year. For ladies wanting to take the leap into matrimony and pop the question, The West Arms has one of Wales’ most romantic walks on its doorstep. It’s possible to spend the most romantic day of the year walking along an 11-mile World Heritage Site canal. The Llangollen Canal spans across 3 counties and 2 countries with the highlight of the walk being the crossing of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (or the Stream in the Sky). Take in those spectacular 360 views of the Dee Valley. For anyone wishing to create the right mood, this much-loved attraction remains a popular spot for proposals, just saying!
There are some famous love stories associated with the Great Inns of Britain. Shibden Mill Inn, has produced a delightful home-grown gin, Jack the Lass Gin, in honour of Anne Lister, exquisitely brought to life on screen by Suranne Jones in the recent BBC drama Gentleman Jack. The Inn is a stone’s throw from Shibden Hall where she would frequently abound on her way to court her one true love, Ann Walker. Shibden Hall is thought to be the inspiration behind Thurshcross Grange, which appears in another great literary romance, Wuthering Heights.
However, if the love of your life is your four-legged friend, most of our luxury, independent hotels are dog friendly and well-behaved dogs and pampered pooches will find a lot to love at The Great Inns of Britain. Find out more about some the dog friendly inns:
