Always wondered what lies in a galaxy, far, far away beyond our skies? If you’re fascinated by stargazing, the universe and constellations, new member property The Selkirk Arms have a wholly unique escape to savour this February.

Taking place from Friday 8th February to Saturday 9th February with departure on the 10th, this is a break like no other with only a few rooms remaining so book today before it’s too late.

Guests are invited to spend two nights in the picturesque Scottish county town of Kirkcudbright with dinner, bed and breakfast included, plus expert talks and a stargazing sessions in the vicinity, as led by experienced astronomer Steve Owens – all for £259 per person.

Friday

When you arrive on Friday, hosts Chris and Sue Walker will meet you at 6:30pm alongside Steve Owens for pre-dinner drinks and canapés in The Selkirk Arms‘ Burns Room named after Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns – the inn’s most famous resident.

After dinner from 7:00pm to 7:45pm, Steve Owens will deliver a short talk on stargazing, the universe and constellations before heading out to stargaze yourself. Satisfying your inner-adventurer, a walk will either take place in Kirkcudbright’s working harbour or alternatively, a secret location on a minibus depending on the weather.

Make sure you pack the thermals because from here you will travel to Dark Sky Park where hot chocolate will be provided as you observe the skies through telescopes, a fascinating mind-broadening experience.

Saturday

Saturday is all about unwinding so why not get out and explore surrounding Dumfries and Galloway yourself?

With stunning coastlines, cycling routes and golf courses all within easy reach, there are also several sightseeing spots on the doorstep of The Selkirk Arms such as MacLellan Castle, Kirkcudbright Galleries and The Stewarty Museum.

At 6:30pm, you will gather in the Burns Room before dinner where Steve Owens will continue to enlighten you about space, the universe, galaxies and constellations. From here, Dark Sky Park is your destination once more for a second evening of sky observation. 

Sunday

Before your onward journey home as you reminisce over literally an out-of-this-world experience, you won’t depart The Selkirk Arms without enjoying a hearty breakfast.
