The True Tastes of Teesdale

The True Tastes of Teesdale

The Rose & Crown sticks to its roots by using local produce

As a county Durham is expansive and rural, with Teesdale in particular one of its most predominantly agricultural areas. This fact is not wasted on The Rose and Crown, with  Teesdale born and raised Head Chef, Dave Hunter, using nothing but local ingredients in his menus.

He supports the rural economy and ensures that all of his components are completely fresh by using the suppliers on the Inn’s doorstep. Everything from the local fisherman’s trout, which is dropped off in the kitchen after a day on the local reservoirs to the cheeses from Leaside Cheesemakers and Cotherstone Cheese can be traced back to the area, with even the wines coming from agents in North Yorkshire.

Dave’s menu is defined by the seasons, as he utilises the ingredients available to him at different points of the year. And his dishes reflect this with imagination, creativity and a genuine passion for local food.
