Ripley Castle has been home to the Ingilby family for over 700 years and they still own and manage the Boars Head, indeed much of the furniture and many of the portraits belong to the family. All residents can take advantage of the complimentary tickets available to tour the ancient castle and stroll around its magnificent deer park and gardens.
All of the twenty four bedrooms are individually decorated and have en suite bathrooms. Complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the Inn.
Food & Drink
The setting may sound formal, but the Inn has been developed to be friendly, informal and welcoming. It skillfully balances the best of British hospitality – relaxing ambience, efficient staff, and menus that make the best possible use of an impressive array of local products, many from the Gardens of the Castle, to offer guests a mouth-watering menu choice, with touches that you would expect in a far more contemporary establishment: The Bar is warm and full of character and local residents and serves local brewed ales.
Guests can dine in the bar or bistro from a seasonally themed menu with daily specials, and there is a very good, reasonably priced wine list to accompany it. During the summer months guests and visitors retreat to the sheltered beer garden to enjoy food and refreshments.
The Boar’s Head has 24 rooms. Nine of the rooms are located in the main house which contains small, standard and superior accommodation. There are also ten rooms in the courtyard area which includes small and standard accommodation. In addition there is Birchwood house which has six superior bedrooms all of which are furnished to a high standard.
Children accompanied by their parents are welcome at The Boar’s Head, where a special menu is offered as well as games and activities. Children up to the age of 12, sharing parents’ room are charged at £20.00 each day to include breakfast.
As one of the UK’s best pet-friendly hotel’s, The Boar’s Head welcomes dogs and if required provides a bone placed in a basket and water bowls are provided. Dogs will have a small charge of £10.00 per day and they are welcome in the Bar/Bistro and lounge areas.
